The 8.6 Blackout is a modern .338-caliber cartridge designed around heavy bullets and optimized for short-barreled platforms. Its efficient case design makes it well suited for compact rifles while providing the ability to run both subsonic and supersonic ammunition.

The 8.6 Blackout is particularly well suited to applications where a short, lightweight barrel and heavy projectile are desired. Its fast twist rate is a defining feature of the cartridge, allowing it to stabilize the long, heavy bullets commonly used in 8.6 Blackout loads.
